CHUMBY: hackable web appliance with silly name

http://www.chumby.com/
From their site:
"Introducing the chumby, a compact device that can act like a clock radio, but is way more flexible and fun. It uses the wireless internet connection you already have to fetch cool stuff from the web: music, the latest news, box scores, animations, celebrity gossip...whatever you choose. And a chumby can exchange photos and messages with your friends. Since it's always on, you’ll never miss anything.
it’s versatile
Wake yourself up to mp3s, or load up your chumby with tons of other useful and amusing widgets.
affordable
Well, it's not for sale yet but we're shooting for $150 or less — stay tuned. Nothing extra to buy, nightstand-ready.
Open inside and out
For the true geek, the electronics are "hackable," the case is removable. Your chumby can look however you like (bling-it-yourself or choose from 3rd party options). Stay tuned — who knows what creative programmer-types will make it do?

The New York International Gift Fair at the Javitz Center - Winter 2007
The gift fair is a totally amazing place to get new products or new ideas, and to get a sense of the general zeitgeist of trends in the home product/design world.
It's not actually publicized as such, but it's free for students, so i went to take a look...it was an amazing lesson in how the business works as well as a wealth of good new ideas, materials, and manufacturing processes to check out.
highly recommended!!
There's another one in the summer that's supposed to be even better, in case you missed this one.

i hate del.icio.us so i use my blog instead
I hate del.icio.us. I can never find anything! What people need is a more visual way to display their bookmarks.
it would be great to visualize your friends network and see their bookmarks in a visual format, maybe something like FlickrGraph, but with screenshots of websites instead of people's faces.

Doug Aitken's Sleepwalkers Opening Tonight at MOMA

TONIGHT!! When else are you going to get to see huge projections on the MOMA's exterior walls?

get more info on the Creative Time site
more info on the MOMA site
From the moma site: "The Museum of Modern Art and Creative Time, the New York–based public art organization, have jointly commissioned Doug Aitken to create the artist's first large-scale public artwork in the United States. The project is also the first to bring art to MoMA's exterior walls. Continuous sequences of film scenes will be projected onto eight facades, including those on West Fifty-third and Fifty-fourth streets and those overlooking The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden. Inspired by the densely built environment of New York's midtown, the artist will create a cinematic art experience that directly integrates with the architectural fabric of the city while simultaneously enhancing and challenging viewers' perceptions of public space. The project, filmed in New York City, will be shown daily from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., and is intended to be visible from many public vantage points adjacent to the Museum."

The only thing I don't like about the iPhone is that I have to wait til June to get one!
I thought the keynote was really great-- Steve Jobs is a great speaker and really shows how important the user experience is to him in developing these amazing products.

Monoface: Best Corporate Holiday Card of the Year!

Shuffle the elements that belong to the faces of the people who work there. All the eyes, noses, mouths, etc, are made to go together to recombine into something really funny almost every time.
Also, if you click on the actual image instead of "shuffle face" you can recreate an actual person by choosing all the elements that belong only to them.
genius!
